Kimbo, the ambassador of Neapolitan coffee excellence in the world, at HostMilano 2025 with new products and its time-honored blends

Kimbo, a Neapolitan heritage of high‑quality coffee actually available in 100 countries worldwide, once again captivated the audience at Host Milano 2025, the global hospitality hub, with its brand new and longstanding coffee lines, a full range of business solutions for the "out-of-home" settings, from professional whole‑bean coffees to single‑serving formats.

Events, talks, and tastings focused not only on Kimbo's classics but also on its new 2025 products, also designed for the international market.

It is no coincidence that Kimbo's exhibition stand, designed to share more than sixty years of family and business history, was divided into four stylistically very different thematic areas which, in dialogue with each other, brought the entire Kimbo world to visitors' attention.

In the first area, dedicated to tasting the Premium Line of coffee beans and complementary coffee products, Kimbo's new visual identity for the out-of-home market found its maximum expression with the story of Kimbo's roots and its three talents: selection, blending, and roasting.

The Specialty area was dedicated to the new "Sapiente" line, handcrafted by Kimbo Neapolitan Master Roasters in the brand-new microroastery opened within the historic Melito di Napoli plant.

With Sapiente, Kimbo has revolutionized the world of Specialty coffee with two major innovations: the first is that the line is composed exclusively of blends from different origins, showcasing the quintessential Italian art of blending different components to achieve a balance of flavors that a single origin can hardly provide, especially when brewed as an espresso.

The second is the use of not only Specialty Arabica but also Fine Robusta, the excellence of the Canephora botanical species, with the goal of enhancing the latter and finally giving "equal dignity" to the two botanical species.

The Sapiente line comprises three products: "Incanto," 100% Specialty Arabica, "Stupore," 100% Fine Robusta, and "Mistero," 50% each. These blends offer extraordinary flavor experiences depending on the coffee extraction methods used, including V60, Chemex, Neapolitan cuccuma, and more.

The Single-Portion area confirmed the success of the “Le Meraviglie del Gusto” line - which has its peak value in the Compostable Pod - and the rise of the line of Nespresso®* Compatible Aluminum Capsules, which offers a true “barista-like” extraction.

A fourth area, called Casa Rubino, conceived as a cultural hub, hosted several talk shows aimed at disseminating news and topics related to the world of coffee. The Rubino family and Kimbo management treated the space like a living room, with the savoir faire that has always distinguished the ancient and proverbial Neapolitan cult of hospitality.

But it doesn't end there. A second stand, almost a new format for fine dining, the "Bar Rubino"—just as the small pastry shop founded in the 1950s in the heart of the Rione Sanità district was called—exploded the strong theme of local tradition, a corporate value and family heritage that has always been central to Kimbo. The bar's undisputed star was the new line—perfect in moka pots, cuccuma pots, and espresso—"Kimbo Antica Miscela dal 1963," which, after its launch in large-scale retail outlets, also debuted at Host in a new bean-to-cup version for the Ho.Re.Ca. sector, offering Kimbo fans around the world an immersive experience in Neapolitan tradition.

“Bringing new life to our old and precious Antica Miscela, the first created by brothers Elio, Francesco and Gerardo Rubino, founders of our company, has been a truly surprising discovery. Not only because it was obtained, already in 1963, from a blend of only Arabica varieties, but also because it has brought us back to the loving pursuit of quality that has always distinguished our company, which still remains a family business, where every resource is ‘family’” says Mario Rubino, Chairman of Kimbo S.p.A. “In Kimbo, we extend the value of care to both our business partners and customers, a value which reflects the spirit we strive to pass on in every Kimbo coffee experience.”

The synthesis of the two stands once again highlights to Host guests how Kimbo offers a unique and authentically glocal proposal, inspired by the territory and dedicated to the world, as demonstrated by the K-Cups and Cold Brew products, dedicated to one of the most dynamic coffee markets, the United States of America.

Consumers and Animals at Risk from Online Sale of “Cat-Poo-Chino”

Charity investigation reveals widespread fraud in civet coffee sales on Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

A new investigation by animal welfare and conservation charity The Civet Project Foundation, supported by international animal welfare organisation Wild Welfare, has uncovered rampant fraud and serious animal welfare concerns linked to the online sale of civet coffee, often dubbed “cat-poo-chino”, on major eCommerce platforms including Amazon, eBay, and Etsy.

Civet coffee, or kopi luwak, is marketed as a luxury product made from coffee beans that have passed through the digestive tract of civets, small nocturnal mammals native to Southeast Asia.

Once hailed as world's rarest and most expensive coffee, with some cups priced as high as £50, civet coffee has become a symbol of exotic indulgence.

But The Civet Project’s investigation paints a much darker picture of civet coffee’s origins and the market behind it.

Following a surge in global demand, sparked by its appearance in the 2007 film The Bucket List, civet coffee has evolved into a multi-billion-dollar industry.

Instead of collecting beans from wild civet droppings as often claimed, producers are now capturing wild civets, confining them in dirty, barren cages, and force-feeding them coffee cherries under harrowing conditions.

“These animals suffer immensely in captivity,” the charity reports. “Wild civets are caught using inhumane methods, suffer severe injuries, and are confined without proper care, biosecurity, or veterinary oversight.”

This not only violates animal welfare standards, but also poses a significant public health risk, as civets have been identified as potential vectors for diseases including SARS and COVID-19.

Beyond the animal cruelty concerns, the environmental impact is also severe. Civets play a vital ecological role as seed dispersers and pest controllers.

Their removal from the wild is contributing to biodiversity loss and environmental degradation across Southeast Asia.

Despite the UK public's growing demand for ethical sourcing and high animal welfare standards, the investigation, detailed in the newly published “Industry Leaders Report 2025: Tackling Civet Coffee Consumption (eCommerce)”, found:

Every civet coffee product that claimed certification from named organisations for being 'wild collected' or 'cage-free' was either fraudulent or untraceable.

Sellers falsely claimed certification from organisations such as WWF, Rainforest Alliance, and World Animal Protection, all of whom confirmed no affiliation with civet coffee

All claims of ethical sourcing or animal welfare standards were found to be fraudulent or untraceable

These misleading practices violate UK consumer protection laws, including the CMA Green Code and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024

The consumer standards, animal welfare, environmental and sustainability issues associated with civet coffee products actively breach seven platform policies employed by eBay, Amazon and Etsy.

Despite having clear policies against misleading claims, all three platforms were found to be hosting sellers in breach of their own rules, highlighting a serious enforcement gap.

Dr Jes Hooper, CEO of The Civet Project Foundation, told That's Food and Drink: “UK consumers have shown time and again that animal welfare is an important consideration when deciding what products to buy and from whom.

"The weaponisation of animal welfare to purposely deceive consumers into purchasing products reliant on animal suffering is absolutely despicable.

The public deserves much better from coffee retailers and eCommerce platforms. We strongly urge people to boycott civet coffee.”

The scale of the issue is alarming. Between May and August 2025, over 182kg kilograms of civet coffee were available for sale on UK-facing eCommerce sites. Despite its supposed rarity, some products were listed for as little as £15.67 per packet.

In response to the multitude of policy violations involved in the sale of civet coffee, The Civet Project is calling on Amazon, eBay, and Etsy to immediately classify civet coffee as a prohibited item and to ban its sale on their platforms.

The charity is also urging consumers to boycott civet coffee this Christmas and beyond.

That's Food and Drink and sister sites That's Christmas 365, That's Green and That's Business support this campaign.

Celebrate World Heart Day with Coffee Mornings and Cheese & Wine Parties

Every year on 29th September, the world unites for World Heart Day – a global initiative created to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which remains the leading cause of death worldwide.

It’s a day to take stock of our own heart health, but also an opportunity to come together, raise funds, and support those affected by heart conditions.

This year, why not do something a little different? Hosting a coffee morning or a cheese and wine party is a fun, social, and effective way to raise money for charities working tirelessly to prevent, treat, and research heart disease.

Coffee Mornings with Heart

Coffee mornings are already a well-loved tradition in the UK, often associated with community, comfort, and conversation. On World Heart Day, you can give this tradition extra meaning by turning it into a fundraiser.

Bake for the cause: Heart-healthy muffins, fruit loaves, or reduced-sugar cakes can be the star of the table.

Donation pot: Ask guests to contribute a donation for their tea, coffee, and cake.

Healthy twist: Offer herbal teas and non-dairy milks alongside traditional brews.

A coffee morning isn’t just about the funds—it’s also a chance to share information about heart health and encourage friends and neighbours to look after theirs.

Cheese and Wine for Charity

If you’d prefer something a little more grown-up and indulgent, a cheese and wine evening can also raise vital funds while giving guests a night to remember.

Curate a cheeseboard: Include a mix of British cheeses and lighter, lower-fat options for balance.

Pair with heart-friendly reds: Red wine, when enjoyed responsibly, has long been linked with heart health thanks to its antioxidants. Offer alcohol-free wines too.

Entry fee for charity: Instead of asking guests to bring a bottle, set a suggested donation to cover the evening.

A cheese and wine party doesn’t need to be elaborate – a few platters, some glasses, and good company are enough to create a special atmosphere.

Supporting the Cause

Funds raised through your event can be donated to organisations such as the British Heart Foundation, which funds life-saving research, campaigns for improved care, and supports people living with heart and circulatory diseases.

Even a modest amount raised through a neighbourhood gathering can contribute to groundbreaking work. Beyond the money, your event also helps spread awareness, reminding people to check their blood pressure, eat well, exercise, and take care of their hearts.

Make It Personal

If you or someone close to you has been affected by heart disease, sharing that story at your event can make it even more meaningful. Guests often give more generously when they understand the personal connection.

Conclusion

World Heart Day is a time to come together—not only to raise awareness of heart health but also to show compassion, care, and community spirit. Whether it’s a warm and welcoming coffee morning or a lively cheese and wine night, your event can make a real difference in the fight against heart disease.

So, pop the kettle on or uncork that bottle, and let’s raise both awareness and funds for healthier hearts everywhere.

Does Cutting Caffeine Out of Your Diet Lead to Weight Gain?

If you’ve ever wondered, “Does quitting coffee cause weight gain?” you’re not alone.

Many people cut back on caffeine for better sleep, lower anxiety, or to break their dependence on tea and coffee, but they worry about unwanted side effects, especially changes on the scales.

The good news is that cutting caffeine doesn’t directly cause weight gain. However, the changes in metabolism, appetite, and daily habits that follow can sometimes result in a small weight increase. Let’s explore why.

How Caffeine Influences Weight

Caffeine affects more than just alertness. It has a subtle impact on metabolism and appetite:

Metabolism boost – Caffeine is mildly thermogenic, meaning it increases calorie burn slightly. When you stop drinking coffee or tea, this effect disappears, so your resting metabolism may slow a little.

Appetite suppression – Coffee and other caffeinated drinks can blunt hunger. Without them, you may feel hungrier and eat more.

Energy for exercise – Many people rely on caffeine for workout energy. Cutting it can make you feel more sluggish and less active, reducing calorie burn.

Why You Might Gain Weight After Quitting Coffee or Tea

If you’ve noticed weight gain after cutting caffeine, it’s likely due to knock-on lifestyle effects rather than caffeine itself:

Feeling more tired – Lower energy can lead to cravings for quick fixes like sugary snacks.

Replacing coffee with high-calorie drinks – Hot chocolate, sweet teas, or milky alternatives can add significant calories.

Temporary withdrawal – During the adjustment phase, you may feel lethargic, leading to less movement.

The Benefits of Cutting Caffeine for Weight Management

Interestingly, stopping caffeine may actually support weight control in the long term:

Improved sleep – Better rest helps regulate hunger hormones (ghrelin and leptin), reducing overeating.

Lower stress hormones – Caffeine can raise cortisol, which is linked to fat storage. Cutting back may reduce this effect.

Stable energy – Once withdrawal passes, many people find they have steadier energy levels without the caffeine highs and crashes.

Tips to Avoid Weight Gain When Cutting Caffeine

If you want to reduce or quit coffee without gaining weight, try these strategies:

Choose healthy alternatives – Swap coffee for herbal teas, green tea (lower caffeine), or sparkling water.

Snack smartly – Keep nuts, fruit, or protein-based snacks nearby to avoid reaching for sugary treats.

Stay active – Even light daily exercise helps balance the small drop in calorie burn.

Be patient – Withdrawal symptoms usually last about a week. Once your body adjusts, weight often stabilises naturally.

Final Thoughts: Caffeine and Weight Gain

So, does cutting caffeine cause weight gain? Not directly. Any weight changes usually come from changes in appetite, energy, or the types of drinks and foods you replace caffeine with. With mindful choices and a little patience, you can quit coffee or reduce caffeine without worrying about extra pounds creeping on.

Raise Awareness on World Alzheimer’s Day with Social Events That Bring People Together

World Alzheimer’s Day, observed every year on 21st September, is an important opportunity to increase understanding of dementia, show support for those living with it, and raise much-needed funds for research and care.

While the subject is a serious one, the ways in which we can raise awareness don’t have to be sombre. In fact, some of the most effective events are those that bring people together in a positive, sociable way.

From wine and cheese evenings to coffee mornings, tea parties, and cake sales, there are countless ways to blend awareness with community spirit. Here are a few ideas to get started.

Host a Wine and Cheese Evening

A relaxed wine and cheese evening can be a fantastic way to gather friends, neighbours, or colleagues. Guests can buy tickets, with proceeds going to an Alzheimer’s charity. You might also invite a guest speaker from a local support group to share insights, or simply provide leaflets and information cards so people can learn more while enjoying their evening.

Organise a Coffee, Tea, and Cake Morning

Classic coffee mornings are still one of the best ways to combine fundraising with socialising. Bake (or buy) cakes, set up a tea and coffee station, and invite people to donate for every slice or cup. To add an extra layer of awareness, you could set up a small display board with facts about dementia, its symptoms, and where to find support.

Afternoon Tea with a Purpose

Why not go a little more upmarket with a themed afternoon tea? Delicate sandwiches, scones, and a selection of teas make a lovely way to mark the day. Sell tickets in advance, provide Alzheimer’s UK charity boxes, and perhaps hold a raffle to raise even more.

Memory-Themed Events

Because dementia directly affects memory, you could design your event around celebrating memories. This could include:

A “Memory Wall” where guests write down a favourite memory on a card.

A photo corner where people bring old photos to share.

Storytelling sessions where participants recount meaningful or funny moments from their past.

These activities not only fit the theme but also spark conversation and reflection.

Partner with Local Businesses

Local cafés, bakeries, wine merchants, or community halls are often keen to support charity initiatives. A café might donate coffee beans, a bakery could provide cakes, or a wine shop might offer discounts on bottles for your event. In turn, you can promote their business through your event, making it a win-win.

Promote Your Event Online

Don’t forget to spread the word through social media. Create a simple event page on Facebook or Eventbrite, post on Instagram with a hashtag such as #WorldAlzheimersDay, and encourage your attendees to share photos and stories. Every share helps raise awareness beyond the event itself.

Why It Matters

Dementia is one of the biggest health challenges we face today. Hosting an event, no matter how big or small, helps break down stigma, spreads vital information, and shows support to those living with the condition and their families. And at the same time, it creates moments of joy, community, and connection—the very things we all value most.

Final Thoughts

World Alzheimer’s Day is not only about awareness but also about action. By hosting a social event—be it a wine and cheese party, a coffee morning, or a themed afternoon tea—you can help bring people together while making a tangible difference.

This year, why not invite your community to raise a glass, share a slice of cake, and join the conversation about dementia? Together, we can help shine a brighter light on Alzheimer’s and support the journey towards better care and, one day, a cure.

Coffee. How Much do you Drink a Week?

New online research from Product of the Year involving over 2,000 consumers has lifted the lid on Britain’s coffee habits – from frequency to top devices and how much people are willing to spend on a single cup.

Coffee reigns supreme as the nation’s favourite first drink of the day, with 37% of respondents across Instagram, Facebook and X choosing a coffee hit before anything else.

Tea still has a loyal following (around a third at 34%), while just over a quarter (27%) opt for pure and simple water.

When it comes to how much we drink, the most common answer is a solid 2–3 cups a day (42%), with a small but committed group (15%) owning up to a whopping four or more cups!

Instant vs. pod debate divides: Instagram users heavily favour instant coffee (52%), while the Facebook crowd leans towards pod machines like Nespresso (39%). Only a small percentage use slightly more involved approaches including cafetières or pour-over methods.

Surprisingly, most coffee drinkers prefer to brew at home for cost and comfort (57%), though a third (37%) like to mix in takeaway visits. And when it comes to flavour, a “white” coffee – lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites – is by far the nation’s favourite, winning two-thirds (62%) of the vote.

Caffeine cravings are real: while over a third (37%) claim they’re “totally fine” without their coffee, another third (32%) feel a little ‘sluggish’ without and 31% admit to being grumpy until they’ve had one! Most consumption happens before or just after the workday starts, with only a handful indulging in the afternoon or evening.

Sustainability is still a work in progress – fewer than one in eight always bring a reusable cup, two-fifths sometimes do and 43% never do.

And as for spending? The majority fork out £3–£5 for their priciest cup (56%), but a third (29%) have splurged an eye-wateringly expensive, £5–£10. A brave 2% have spent over £10 on a single coffee. A lucky few pay less than £3 (13%).

“Britain’s love affair with coffee is very much hotting up, but our poll shows it’s about more than just getting a caffeine hit – ritual, taste, convenience, and even identity, are all part of the experience that makes it special,” Helga Slater, MD at Product of the Year told That's Food and Drink.

“Over the years, we’ve seen all manner of coffee innovation win awards – we’re looking forward to seeing what turns heads in our next awards for 2026.”

Devon's Voyager Coffee Introduces New Single Origin: Sitio São Lourenço

Voyager Coffee, Devon's leading specialty roaster, has announced its latest single origin release: Sitio São Lourenço, a Brazilian coffee from the southern region of Minas Gerais. Grown by fifth-generation producer Antônio Afonso de Oliveira, this delicious coffee brings a smooth, full-bodied cup with rich tasting notes of baker's chocolate, walnut, and stewed plum.

Sourced from Santana da Vargem, famed for its lush valleys, rich soil, and ideal coffee-growing conditions, this single origin showcases a creamy body, mellow acidity and slight sweetness. The gentle roasting helps maintain its balanced profile, ensuring it works beautifully for both espresso and filter.

Antônio farms using sustainable, regenerative practices, and is a founding member of Coopasv, a small cooperative dedicated to supporting local producers with fair pricing, shared infrastructure and agronomic support. Antônio describes his coffee simply, “I drink it and I think it's a sweet, clean coffee -the best coffee in the world for me. It's a product of my work, my family's work, and our history.”

In September 2024, Voyager's Head Roaster, Gabriel Fill, visited Sitio São Lourenço with export partner Volcafe. There, he met Antônio and witnessed the resilience behind the cup: following a devastating frost in 2021, Antônio lost a significant portion of his crop and turned to honey production to sustain the farm while replanting new coffee trees. Coopasv stepped in with seedlings, logistical support, and market access - a testament to the strength of community-based sourcing.

Gabriel comments, “Meeting Antônio and seeing firsthand how a small farm like his survives and thrives was incredibly humbling and reinforced the importance of seeing the producers behind every bean. This coffee is not only delicious, it's a story of perseverance and partnership. Sitio São Lourenço represents the kind of meaningful relationship we aim to build with every origin we work with.Behind every cup is a family, a farm, and a community working tirelessly to bring us the coffee we love.”

Voyager's Sitio São Lourenço is available now at voyagercoffee.co.uk, in three sizes (227g, £10.50 / 500g, £21.00 / 1kg, £35.00). It's suitable for all brewing methods, including filter, stovetop, domestic espresso, cafetiere, and AeroPress.

Why Your Mile High Cuppa Could Be Doing You More Harm Than Good: Tea Expert Spills The Leaves and Beans On In-Flight Brews

With concerns over water quality, hygiene and sanitation onboard, a tea expert shares tips for safely enjoying your favorite drink whilst you are flying

Key Points:

Airplane water tanks may not be cleaned as often as one should be able to hope, raising concerns over the safety of consuming hot drinks in flight.

Coffee machines are often located near lavatories, and may not be thoroughly cleaned between flights.

Tea expert shares his tips and tricks to enjoy a mile-high brew

As more people take to the skies, especially with holiday season travel, a cup of tea or coffee during a flight might seem like the perfect way to relax and re-hydrate.

But before you reach for that hot beverage, Arthur Gautier, who os a tea expert at Nio Teas, is sharing some sage advice that might have you reconsidering.

Gautier warns there could be health risks linked to drinking tea and coffee on airplanes, especially when you factor in how onboard water quality plays a rvital ole in what ends up in your cuppa.

How Clean Is That Water, anyway?

One of those things that often flies under the radar is just how often (or not) the water tanks on airplanes are cleaned out. If you’ve seen those viral social media posts from flight attendants, you’ve probably heard the whispers—those tanks aren’t exactly getting the TLC you’d hope for.

“The water used for tea and coffee on planes comes from large tanks that, let’s just say, don’t get the same level of attention as your kitchen tap at home,” says Arthur. “It’s not always as clean as you might think, especially on the long-haul flights.”

For anyone with a sensitive stomach or a weaker immune system, that less-than-fresh water could mean more than just a bad-tasting brew—it might lead to some unpleasant discomfort mid-flight.

Location, Location, Location

Have you ever thought about where your tea or coffee is actually made on a plane? If you’re observant you may have noticed those trusty coffee machines are often placed right next to the lavatories—yes, that close. Eww. If that wasn’t enough to make you pause, it gets even worse.

“Apparently those machines don’t get much love between flights, unless they break down,” shares Gautier, hinting at the less-than-sparkling conditions. Over time, residue, germs, and bacteria can easily build up, making the situation even less appealing. With the machines sitting so close to the toilets rest, it’s not hard to see how things might get a bit... unsanitary?

“If cleanliness is a priority for you, you might want to think twice before reaching for that in-flight cup of coffee,” he adds.

Safer Alternatives: Bottled Drinks and Warm Tea Tricks

If you’re still craving a warm drink but want to avoid the risks, Arthur Gautier suggests some clever hacks.

“It’s safer to stick with bottled or canned beverages while flying,” he recommends. “If you really want tea, ask for a bottle of water and a cup of hot water separately. You can steep your tea bag in the bottled water, then warm it up using the hot water.”

Of course, this isn’t always the easiest task depending on the size of the bottle and the cup you get. And remember, boiling hot water can be dangerous, so be extra careful not to spill it while trying this method.

When it comes to tea, it can help to choose types that steep well at lower temperature water. Arthur suggests teas like green tea, white tea, or herbal blends like chamomile or peppermint, which are perfect for steeping in warmish water without sacrificing too much flavor. So even at 30,000 feet, you can still enjoy a decent cup without any worry.

Gautier concluded: "When you're flying, the cabin pressure and altitude can really dull your sense of taste, so that cup of tea or coffee might not taste as good as it normally would—regardless of the water quality. To make the most of it, go for teas that brew well with warm water, and always use bottled water when possible. That way, you can enjoy your drink without worrying about any unpleasant surprises."

We'd like to thank Nio Teas for their help in researching for this article.

Hosting Cake and Ale (or Cake and Coffee) Parties to Raise Funds for Charity

One of the most enjoyable ways to support a charitable cause is by hosting a cake and ale (or cake and coffee) party.

These events combine the delightful simplicity of a good cup of coffee, a refreshing ale, and a slice of cake with the powerful impact of fundraising for those in need.

If you're thinking about organising a charity event, a cake and ale or coffee party can be a low-cost, highly engaging way to bring people together for a good cause.

Why Cake and Ale or Coffee Parties?

Unlike more formal fundraising events, a cake and ale (or coffee) party has a casual, welcoming vibe that encourages community participation. There’s something universally appealing about gathering over homemade bakes and drinks. It doesn’t require a great deal of planning, and the relaxed atmosphere allows guests to connect with each other and learn more about the charity you're supporting.

It’s also an accessible way for anyone to contribute. Many people may shy away from large donations but feel comfortable offering a smaller sum in exchange for something tangible – in this case, a delicious slice of cake or a refreshing drink.

Planning Your Cake and Ale or Coffee Party

To ensure your fundraising event is a success, it’s important to consider a few key points during the planning phase.

1. Set a Date and Location

Choose a date that works for your community. If it’s a work or school-related event, weekends are often the best time. A central, easy-to-access location is crucial. Consider hosting it at home, a community centre, or a local pub or café, if they’re willing to donate the space for the cause.

2. Create a Menu

While cake is the star of the show, you don’t need to stop there. Offer a variety of cakes and bakes to suit different tastes and dietary requirements. Whether it's classic Victoria sponges, rich brownies, gluten-free options, or even savoury bakes, variety will help attract more attendees. Pair the cakes with a selection of drinks—tea, coffee, and perhaps, ale for a more traditional touch.

If you have baking talents within your community, encourage friends or family to contribute cakes. The more, the merrier!

3. Price Your Bakes

Pricing can be tricky, but the goal is to raise as much money as possible while ensuring guests feel they’re getting value for their donation. Consider a suggested donation per slice of cake or a set price for an entry ticket, which could include a couple of slices of cake and a drink.

Alternatively, you can have a “pay what you feel” donation system, which can work well if your guests are keen on the cause and feel generous.

4. Involve Your Charity or church

Make sure you promote the charity you are raising funds for throughout the event. You can display posters or banners that explain the charity’s mission and why it is important. Include a donation box for those who wish to contribute more and provide information on how they can continue supporting the charity after the event.

5. Spread the Word

Promoting your cake and ale or coffee party is key. Use social media, local community boards, and word of mouth to get the message out. Create a fun event page or invite your friends and colleagues directly. Emphasise that it's not just about enjoying cakes and drinks, but also supporting a meaningful cause.

Make It Fun and Engaging

Adding some light activities can make the event even more enjoyable. Consider a bake-off competition where guests can vote on their favourite cakes, or hold a raffle or auction to raise additional funds. A quiz or small games can help break the ice and create a more dynamic atmosphere.

The Impact of Your Event

A cake and ale or coffee party might seem like a small event, but it can have a big impact. Even if you’re only able to raise a modest amount, it all contributes to the larger efforts of the charity. Additionally, these events build awareness and community spirit, which can inspire people to take further action for the cause.

Moreover, they can become a recurring event in your community, growing year on year. Whether it's an annual charity bake sale at work or a quarterly neighbourhood coffee gathering for charity, these events can establish a tradition of giving back.

Conclusion

Cake and ale (or coffee) parties are a brilliant way to raise funds for charity while creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere. It’s an opportunity to bring your community together over something as simple as a slice of cake, while making a tangible difference for a cause that matters. With a bit of planning and creativity, your event can become a meaningful, impactful, and enjoyable tradition.

So, roll up your sleeves, get baking, and raise a glass or mug to doing good!
