Dickinson & Morris launches show-stopper pie to mark Coronation of King Charles III

Hot from the ovens (so to speak!) of a win at this year’s British Pie Awards, which saw this brand-new pie win in the Cold-Eating Savoury Pie category, the Melton Mowbray pork pie purveyors, Dickinson & Morris, have teamed up with ‘The Pie King’, Calum Franklin, once again to launch the King’s Coronation Pie, a celebration of King Charles III’s Coronation.

The new pie continues the brand’s long-standing relationship with the Royal Family, with both King Charles III and his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, visiting the Ye Olde Pie Shoppe in Melton Mowbray over the years.

The Dickinson & Morris Coronation pie takes inspiration from the King’s love of British game and includes outdoor-bred British pork with succulent pheasant, warming chestnut and madeira jelly, finished by hand with intricate, royal-themed pastry detailing by the talented team at Dickinson & Morris.

The pie is 860g and serves eight people, making it the perfect centre-piece for any Coronation party or celebration this May.

Dickinson and Morris have been traditionally supplying the nation with superior Melton Mowbray Pork Pies for over 170 years, traditionally made using the finest quality ingredients. Encompassing dedicated craftsmanship and a pioneering spirit, the artisan pies are made from outdoor-bred British pork shoulder, a unique blend of white pepper and Brozzi lard from pigs fed on grain, cereal & parmesan whey.

The pies are all created using the hand-raised method, without a supporting tin or hoop, giving the classic bow-sided, artisan shape - a sign of skilled craftsmanship.

Building on the brand’s range of larger, celebration pies, which saw the first Christmas pie launch back in 2021, Calum, alongside a team of highly talented development chefs, is excited to reprise his role as culinary ambassador to create this showstopping pie.

Says Pastry Chef Calum, “As a pastry chef with a passion for creating spectacular, great-tasting pies, working with a brand that shares these values and creates products using traditional hand-crafted methods is always a joy.

"It’s been fantastic to continue my work with Dickinson & Morris and build on the celebration pies range, that we started in 2021, and be part of British history as we celebrate the Coronation of a new King.’

The Christmas pies will be available for pre-order from 3rd April at porkpie.co.uk for delivery 2nd – 5th May. The pie will also be available online from Fortnum and Mason as part of their ‘Coronation Collection’.

Dickinson & Morris’ full range of pork pies is available nationally in Waitrose, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco.

Copas Coronation Cockerel – a feast fit for a King

Are you seeking out a feast fit for a King to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III?

Hailing from Royal Berkshire, Premium poultry producer, Copas has reared a limited number of cockerels for this very special occasion, delicious paired with their Artisan Coronation Sauce, a fitting tribute to King Charles III.

Slow-reared for the best possible flavour, the cockerels are fed a natural diet of maize and omega-rich corn and roam meadows for a truly free-range life.

Bigger than usual chickens, these birds are allowed more time to grow, resulting in succulent meat with a rich, more gamey flavour. The birds weigh around 3kg each which means they'll feed at least 6 hungry adults.

For an authentic Coronation Chicken dish, mix one jar of Copas Artisan Coronation Sauce with an equal part of mayonnaise and stir through the cooked chicken.

Cockerel prices start from £40 available from https://www.copasturkeys.co.uk

Unsure how to cook a cockerel? You should just treat it like the big chicken it is and you can’t go far wrong!

Here's how the Copas family do it…

Remove your cockerel from the fridge at least an hour before cooking to bring it to room temperature

Preheat your oven to 210°C Fan / 230°C / Gas 8

Season the bird all over with salt and pepper

Roast for 20 minutes, then lower the over temperature to 160°C Fan / 180°C / Gas 4 and continue to roast for 40 minutes per kilo until the meat reaches an internal temperature of at least 68°C. We recommend using a thermometer for failsafe results every time

Remove from the oven and leave to rest in a warm place for at least 30 minutes

Beyond Meat launches a new, plant-based chicken-style range in the UK

Following on from successful launches of Beyond Meat’s beef- and pork-style products, the plant-based pioneer is boosting its UK portfolio with the new Beyond Burger® Chicken-Style, Beyond Fillet®, and Beyond Nuggets®

Beyond Meat®, a leader in plant-based meat, is expanding in the UK with a range of mouth-watering plant-based chicken-style products including the brand-new Beyond Burger® Chicken-Style, Beyond Fillet®, and Beyond Nuggets®.

The tasty new innovations have just begun to launch into retail with the Beyond Burger® Chicken-Style now available from select Waitrose stores. All three products will be available in select Sainsbury's branches from early May, too.

Like all of the Beyond Meat range, the new Beyond Chicken-Style products are made from plant-based ingredients and are designed to look, cook and taste like their animal equivalent. Crispy on the outside thanks to the golden breading, and incredibly tender and juicy on the inside, these delicious new additions are suitable for carnivores, flexitarians, vegetarians and vegans alike.

They provide tastebud teasing and protein-packed perfection for any hot meal occasion, and can be prepared quickly and easily in the air fryer, oven or frying pan. Tasty convenience at its finest - either for a solo dinner, or the whole family!

It’s Beyond Coronation Chic-King Sarnie time!

The launch comes just in time to help the UK celebrate the Coronation with a plant-based version of one of the nation’s most-loved and versatile street party foods - Coronation Chicken.  A host of recipes to inspire creativity in the kitchen for the Coronation and beyond are available here, with a special Beyond Coronation Chic-King Sarnie created by plant-based guru Sam Jones of No Meat Disco.

“Beyond Meat has absolutely revolutionised the plant-based meat world and is best known for their insanely meaty plant-based burgers,” said Sam Jones of No Meat Disco. “Now they're bringing out a new Beyond Chicken-Style range just in time for the Coronation.

"Their tasty plant-based burgers, fillets and nuggets are most definitely fit for a king, especially knowing that King Charles follows a flexitarian diet. Unbeatably juicy, perfectly crispy and with an amazing taste, you won’t go wrong celebrating the Coronation with Beyond Meat - the heads of taste for the Head of State!

"To celebrate the Coronation, I've developed a majestic recipe, that's a fresh take on classic coronation chicken: the Beyond Coronation Chic-King Sarnie, created in collaboration with Beyond Meat. As a big Beyond Meat fan I wanted to honour this month's momentous event and the long anticipated Beyond Chicken-Style launch with a dish fit for a king. Coronation sauce is my favourite sandwich filler since a little boy, and over the years I’ve come to perfect it. It's full of flavour, packs a punch with its sweet and spicy taste and of course this recipe is completely plant-based."

The process of raising and processing livestock makes up 10% of our greenhouse emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Beyond Meat’s name says it all. The brand gives back to the Earth by fighting our reliance on the meat industry, trying to create a world beyond meat. As a bonus, the brand recognizes that most alternatives taste nowhere near as good as the real deal, so its plant-based substitute tastes extremely similar to actual meat. Producing a Beyond Meat patty uses 46% less energy, 99% less water and 93% less land than making an equivalent beef patty.

The new Beyond Meat Chicken-Style range

Beyond Burger® Chicken-Style

With a meaty taste and texture but now in a chicken-style option, it’s time to take your favourite comfort food beyond. This new plant-based burger packs a punch with 15 grams of protein per 100g, and oozes deliciousness.

Beyond Fillet®

Ready to take your meal to the next level? Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, Beyond Fillet is a delicious, versatile option that is quick-to-prepare, and is suitable as a main course.

Beyond Nuggets®

Crispy on the outside thanks to their breading, and fittingly tender on the inside, who doesn’t love nuggets? These golden Beyond Nuggets are tasty, convenient, and easy to make, making them a winning combination for family and friends to enjoy. Perfect for lunch, dinner or a delicious juicy snack, they are everything you’d expect from a classic nugget…and beyond, too!

The new Beyond Chicken-Style products complement the existing Beyond Meat portfolio, which in the UK already includes Beyond Burger®, Beyond Sausage®, Beyond Mince® and Beyond Meatballs®, and builds upon Beyond Meat’s award-winning chicken-style portfolio in the US.

Eat what you love, no sacrifice is required

With sales of plant-based meat across Europe growing by 21% from 2020 to 2022, according to the latest study by GFI, consumers are swapping animal meat in favour of their plant-based counterparts like never before. According to the study, sustainability, animal welfare and balanced lifestyle all play varying roles in helping people make the move in powering up the plant-based protein in their diet. Beyond Meat is responding to this increased demand by introducing new products on the market.

"In our quest to make plant-based meat more accessible, we’re constantly adapting and refining our portfolio to meet different European taste preferences,” said Steve Dalby, Regional Sales Manager UK at Beyond Meat. “After launching beef- and pork-style products in the UK over the past years, we’re delighted to be introducing Brits to our tasty new Chicken-Style range. Innovation is at the heart of Beyond Meat, and our delicious new plant-based burger, fillet and nuggets will allow people to continue eating what they love, no sacrifice required."

Unlocking the potential of the fava bean

Through rapid and relentless innovation, Beyond Meat’s research, innovation and culinary teams are focused on creating plant-based meat that delivers in taste.

With competitors often adding soy and mycoprotein as their dominant ingredient, the new Beyond Chicken-Style range has taken a different direction to provide a texture and taste as close as possible to its animal-meat counterpart. The protein in the new Beyond Chicken-Style products comes in part from wheat gluten and the fava bean.

The fava bean is a nutrient-packed legume crop, and its unique qualities make it the optimal ingredient for replicating the taste and texture of traditional chicken. After popularizing pea protein with the iconic and award-winning Beyond Burger®, Beyond Meat continues to unlock the potential of new plant protein sources.

Here's A Chocolate Bar Fit for The King!

With the King’s Coronation set to be the event of the year, the clever chocolate-addicts at FATSO have created King’s Ransom, a chocolate bar that is as delicious as it is absolutely regal, enrobing the majesty of whole pistachios, crunchy cocoa nibs and with a hint of mint. It’s a Right. Royal. Rhapsody!

FATSO launched in spring of 2022 delivering personality-packed bars of delicious dark chocolate that go against the grain by offering the best high-quality ingredients packed with big flavour combinations and massive chunks, besides.

And of course, the new King’s Ransom flavour is no different, delivering minty-fresh flavours laced with whole pistachios and crunchy cocoa nibs, all set in the finest Colombian dark chocolate (60% cacao). King’s Ransom is aiming to hit the shelves with royal flair this spring as FATSO continues to set the record straight that dark chocolate can have just as much fun as milk with epic, uncompromising deliciousness.

But even beyond the cacao and chocolate itself, FATSO is embracing the best and most audacious ingredients that break category conventions but retains (and exceeds) consumer expectations for high quality, ethical chocolate.

All of the bars are packaged in a 100% recyclable box with vegetable-based ink print and a home compostable flow wrap inside, fulfilling FATSO’s motto of MORE CHUNK, MORE FLAVOUR, MORE ETHICS, MORE LOVE, MORE CARE…because MORE MATTERS.

King’s Ransom, like all of FATSO’s bars, is made with true single-origin, Fino de Aroma certified cacao from family-owned Luker’s Farm in Columbia where ethics, sustainability and quality are at the heart of their business.

The new King’s Ransom bar is vegan-friendly and will sit alongside FATSO’s three great-tasting flavours, all with their own distinct personalities; Morn’n Glory, Home Run and Nan’s stash. Sainsbury’s is now trayless with its whole chickens, saving over 10 million pieces of plastic a year

Sainsbury’s has announced that its by Sainsbury’s whole chicken range is now totally trayless, after the retailer removed single-use plastic trays from its packaging. Using a minimum of 50% less plastic, the change is estimated to save some 140 tonnes of plastic annually.

The trayless products are available in all stores across the UK and online, helping to reduce the amount of single-use plastic customers have to dispose of at home. The change affects five products in total, including all by Sainsbury’s whole chickens ranging from extra small to extra-large sizes.

Also, the film packaging can still be recycled at one of Sainsbury’s front-of-store flexible plastics recycling points (available at all Sainsbury’s UK supermarkets).

The move is the latest in a string of plastic reductions as part of the retailer’s ongoing commitment to halve its use of own brand plastic packaging by 2025. Last month, the retailer removed single-use plastic lids from its own brand dip pots, including household favourites including guacamole, tzatziki and sour cream and chive dip.

As part of its wider sustainability commitments, Sainsbury’s is also dedicated to protecting animal welfare across its supply chains. In March, Sainsbury’s made improvements to its chicken welfare standards, by moving all its fresh and frozen own brand by Sainsbury’s chicken to a lower stocking density. The move means its chickens now have 20% more space than the Red Tractor UK industry standard.

The retailer has also introduced more enrichment bales, pecking objects and platforms for perching, giving its chickens the freedom to express their natural behaviours, helping them live happier and healthier lives.
