Want free beer? Ask Aldi!

Aldi's search for an official beer taster is back for 2023!

The fortunate winner will receive an allowance of free beer in exchange for their feedback which will guide Aldi's future beer buying decisions.

And last year’s lucky recruit Emma Budd claims that the role was ‘a career highlight' for her.

Budding beer connoisseurs have until 21st August to apply for the role

Aldi is searching for an Official Beer Taster to review its new range of beers launching on 11th September.

The successful applicant will receive four pale ales, three IPAs, two beers, four ciders, one stout and one lager, all of which will need to be tasted and reviewed. The feedback will help guide Aldi beer buying bosses ahead of key decision making for its next range.

The unique job will require applicants to have a love of lager, passion for ale and a hop-timistic attitude, as they'll be asked for feedback on the whole range.

To be in with a chance of landing the role, all budding beer tasters need do is zap over an email explaining why they think they should be chosen for the role,  plus outlining what their favourite Aldi beer is and why.

Emma Budd, 27, who is from from Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, was chosen to become Aldi’s first-ever Official Beer Taster last year for 2022. The beer fanatic impressed judges with her application, in which she explained she loved beer so much, she had tried locally brewed tipples in 51 countries including Antigua, Mykonos, and St Lucia.

Emma, who works for the NHS says: “It was a great opportunity to support Aldi and be part of something I have a passion for, a career highlight!"

Emma went on to explain: "Being able to taste and share beers ahead of anyone else felt really exciting and I loved the variety of flavours that were on offer. I'd seriously encourage anyone who has a passion for beers to apply.”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “We're always looking to innovate and excite when it comes to our beer range, experimenting with flavours like coffee, caramel and watermelon.

"Emma’s opinions were instrumental in guiding us for this year’s product offering, particularly with regards to the flavoured beers, so we're looking forward to seeing what this year’s applicants bring. For beer lovers, it’s the ultimate opportunity. So, best of luck to all applicants!”

To apply for the Official Beer Taster role, shoppers simply need to send an email to Aldibeertaster@clarioncomms.co.uk  with the following details:

Your full name

Proof of age (copy of passport or driving license)

Social media handles (if these are applicable)

Wine News from Aldi: Over 35% rise in Rioja Rosé sales

Aldi has recorded a boost in pink wine sales as ‘Barbiemania’ continues to sweep the country.

Aldi, which has cemented its reputation as a destination for great value rosé wine, recorded over +35% spike in sales of its popular Specially Selected Rioja Rosé (£6.49, 75cl) in the week leading up to the launch of the Barbie movie. (Or film as we Brits call them!)

Joining Aldi's established line up we find:-

Cambalala South African Pinot Grigio Blush (£5.99, 75cl)

This is a beautifully coloured blush wine from South Africa’s Western Cape. Boasting apple scented fruit aromas with a nice spring bouquet, it has mouth-watering strawberry and raspberry notes, the perfect wine to raise a toast to the new movie?

Chassaux et Fils La Franc Bouchy Rosé (£5.99, 75cl)

This is a soft, subtle rosé with a pale pink hue, this delightfully refreshing wine delivers a harmonious balance of juicy red fruit alongside nicely balanced citrus notes.

Specially Selected Côtes de Provence Rosé (£7.69, 75cl)

This is another firm favourite, it is a delightful rosé wine with flavours of rich red fruit followed by white flower. Delicate with a creamy fruity finish, Aldi’s Côtes de Provence rosé is the ultimate tipple for a Barbie inspired night in.

That's Food and Drink suggests getting some lemonade from Aldi in so the kids don't feel left out!

Aldi announces big change to its Super 6 Fruit and Veg Range

The Aldi supermarket chain has recently announced a change to its Super 6 promotion scheme which will impact all stores across the UK over the next several weeks.

What's now Britain’s fourth largest supermarket will be renaming its Super 6 to Super 7, with a proportion of profits from the seventh item in the range being donated to its charity partner, the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Super 7 range now includes a little gem lettuce and once purchased, 7p from every pack will go towards supporting the charity.

Every day in the UK, approximately seven teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer. Aldi is aiming to raise awareness of this with its Super 7, while also helping raise funds to support those affected.

The Teenage Cancer Trust funds specialist nurses and Youth Support Co-ordinators to help get young people through cancer. However, there are still many other young people who need dedicated care, and in the current climate fundraising is more important than ever before.

The supermarket is also selling new reusable shopping bags as a Specialbuy to raise even more funds for the charity, which have been designed by a young person who has been supported by Teenage Cancer Trust.

Liz Fox, whop is the Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, said: “Teenage Cancer Trust does such a vital job of caring for young people affected by cancer, and our new Super 7 campaign aims to raise awareness of all that they do.

“Without donations they won’t be able to make a difference to so many young lives, and we are incredibly grateful to our colleagues and customers for helping us in our fundraising efforts so far for Teenage Cancer Trust.”

Aldi has raised over £8 million for Teenage Cancer Trust since partnering with the charity in 2017 and is now well on its way to hitting its target of raising £10 million by 2027.

I'm officially joyful! Aldi launched Ballycastle that tastes exactly like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!

Fans of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (like me!) will be thrilled with the news Aldi is launching a totally new Ballycastle flavour, the Milk Chocolate & Peanut Butter Cream Liqueur (£7.49, 70cl) which will  be in stores from Thursday 29th June.

It's a luxurious blend of Irish whisky, rich chocolate and salty-sweet peanut butter notes, fans will be certain to notice flavour similarities to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, but with a nifty alcoholic twist.

Serve it neat, with ice or why not create your deliciously boozy milkshake?

Ingredients:

100ml Ballycastle Chocolate & Peanut Butter Cream Liqueur

100ml Cowbelle Chocolate Fudge Milk

500ml water

60g The Pantry Cocoa Powder

Moser Roth Milk Chocolate, shaved

Peanuts to garnish

Method:

In a small saucepan, boil 250ml of water then remove from heat and add The Pantry Cocoa Powder

Stir to dissolve and then add the remaining 250ml cup of water

Once it's cool, add the Ballycastle Chocolate & Peanut Butter Cream Liqueur to the mixture and leave to infuse

Once successfully infused (this will take ten minutes) shake all the ingredients up in a cocktail shaker with ice.

Pour into your preferred glasses and top up with whipped cream, grated Moser Roth Milk Chocolate and the peanuts!

The latest addition follows the success of Aldi’s Ballycastle Hazelnut Chocolate Cream Liqueur (£7.49, 70cl), which was noted as a delicious alcoholic twist on the much-loved spread, Nutella.

The supermarket’s Ballycastle range has scooped a series of awards. The Specially Selected Irish Cream (£7.99, 70cl) landed a ‘Great Value’ accolade in the 2022 prestigious Which? ‘Irish Cream Liqueur’ taste test, whilst the Ballycastle White Chocolate Cream (£7.49, 70cl) and the Ballycastle Chocolate, Caramel and Hazelnut Cream (£7.49, 70cl) BOTH won medals at this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC).

Aldi’s Ballycastle Milk Chocolate & Peanut Butter Cream Liqueur is available in-stores and via Click & Collect nationwide from Thursday 29th June.

Actually, when I make this milkshake, I'm seriously thinking of adding some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups into the mix!

A shopping trip to our nearest Aldi is certainly on the cards for next Thursday!

Aldi faces down council in ice cream wars

What’s even better, customers can secure a £5 voucher to purchase their own ice-cream, simply by emailing freealdiicecream@clarioncomms.co.uk. (T&C comply)

Aldi is offering free ice-cream outside its Brocklebank Road store on Friday 16th June, following the news that Greenwich Council will be banning ice-cream vans in the borough during the summer months.

Pictured: Aldi giveaway ice creams outside the store in Greenwich.  Leading budget supermarket Aldi has come to the rescue for people in a London Borough where ice cream vans have been banned, by simply handing out free frozen desserts.

Greenwich Council shocked local residents when it published a list of streets across Greenwich and Woolwich town centres where ice cream vans could be prohibited from trading during the summer months.

But Aldi stepped in to counter this ban help and offered Londoners the cool treats as the warm weather continues, even going so far as offering shoppers the chance to win free ice cream.

Visitors to the Greenwich store on Brocklebank Road could be lucky enough to scoop up to 23 ice creams with a £5 voucher.

Even better, UK Aldi shoppers will be in with a chance to bag some free ice-cream, simply by emailing freealdiicecream@clarioncomms.co.uk to secure a £5 voucher.

The decision to ban ice-cream vans, which was announced by Greenwich Council this week, was met with a frosty reception by Greenwich residents. Thankfully, Aldi has moved in to save the day with the offer of an abundance of ice cool treats for free from its Brocklebank Road store.

With Aldi prices starting from just 21p per ice-lolly, lucky winners will be able to scoop  up to 23 ice-creams with their free voucher. All customers need do is send an email to this to email address: freealdiicecream@clarioncomms.co.uk along with their name and address.

Julie Ashfield, who is the Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “We’d like to reassure ice-cream fans, not just in Greenwich, but across the nation, that they can still enjoy a delicious summertime treat as we head into another weekend of heatwave weather!”

Customers can use their voucher to try Aldi’s extensive range of delicious ice-creams, which includes shopper favourites such as the Gianni’s Caramelised Biscuit Chocsticks (£2.49, 3 pack), Gianni’s Strawberry & Vanilla Ice Blitz (£1.15, 6 pack) and Gianni’s Mini Whirlz (£1.99, 8 pack).

Aldi’s ice-cream range is available in store and via Click & Collect now.

Aldi is switching to colourless, greener, milktops in all its 990 UK stores

Following last year's successful trial, Aldi, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, is introducing the easier to recycle caps on all its milk lines in a bid to further boost the recyclability of the bottles.

Partnering with several suppliers, the new milk caps have started to appear in stores this week onward.

The roll out will mean a further 200 tonnes of High-Density Polythene (rHDPE) in the bottle tops can be reused to create new milk bottles.

Customers will still be able to distinguish the milk type via the labels, which will remain red, green or blue depending on the fat content of the milk it contains.

Luke Emery, Aldi's Plastics and Packaging Director said: “At Aldi we are constantly reviewing ways to become a more sustainable supermarket and cut down on single-use plastic. That means working closely with all our suppliers to find solutions that will make a real difference.

“Improving the recyclability of packaging on an everyday product like milk has been well received by our customers, who are increasingly aware of products being environmentally friendly.”

Aldi brings out a real Wimbledon Winner with the return of Baileys Extra Thick Strawberry Cream

Back by popular customer demand, the limited-edition Baileys Extra Thick Strawberry Cream (£2.19) has returned exclusively to Aldi stores ahead of the Wimbledon season. And Aldi shoppers can bag this treat now.

Following its great success last year, the supermarket predicts it will sell enough of the cream to fill around 10 swimming pools!

Made with 100% yummy British cream, it’s deliciously rich and indulgently thick which makes it a perfect doubles partner with Aldi’s Specially Selected Strawberries (£2.85, 400g). And with strawberries expected to be bigger and sweeter than previous years due to the cooler spring weather, Aldi's shoppers will be in for the ultimate treat when paired with this decedent summer topping.

For those who want something even sweeter, why not try pairing it with Aldi’s Dessert Menu Strawberry Cheesecake (£0.85, 400g) for an overload of creamy strawberry delight?

The launch comes as Aldi serves up its first ever Swing Ball Championships, which is open and free to book during 3rd – 7th July.

Baileys Extra Thick Strawberry Cream is available in Aldi stores now, while stocks last, of course!

Peanut Butter whiskey liquor launched at Aldi

At a mere £12.99, clever Aldi shoppers can save 43% when compared against the alternative brand Sheep Dog.

It will be available in Aldi stores from 29th June. The latest addition to Aldi’s award-winning line-up offers a unique and joyful take on an Irish classic.

Boasting the comforting and delicious taste of peanut butter with the complex flavours of a classic aged whiskey, this is a deliciously nutty tipple that is both smooth and also sweet.

Smart shoppers might spot similarities to the popular Peanut Butter Whiskey brand, Sheep Dog. However, with savings of up to 43%, whiskey fans will be running, not walking to Aldi to stock up on their new favourite tipple!

Incidentally if you have never tried any peanut butter whiskey, may I suggest that you nip into your nearest Aldi branch and buy a bottle or two? Incidentally, my favourite way of drinking this is served over ice and with a strong ginger beer, such as Old Jamaica.

Missing out on an Aldi shopping experience? Not anymore in five areas

How so? Because Aldi is opening five new stores across the UK in the next several weeks.

They'll be joining the other existing 990+ stores that Aldi already operates. It'll be opening in new locations this month June including Southampton and Whittlesey.

Further stores in Norwich, Castle Donington and Porthcawl will also open early next month, July.

The new stores are a part of Aldi’s commitment to invest over £400 million in store development during 2023.

On average each new store will provide about 40 new jobs on average, thus offering a welcome boost to employment opportunities in local areas.

Store Assistants will be able earn up to £11 nationally, and £12.45 inside the M25 zone, with paid breaks included, increasing to £11.40 and £12.85 respectively from July.

George Brown, Aldi's Real Estate Director, said: “Demand for Aldi has never been higher, and more than two thirds of British households already shop with us.

“However, there are still too many people for whom shopping at Aldi isn’t a convenient option and we’re committed to changing that, thus we'll be giving even more people access to our award-winning products at unbeatable prices.

“To meet that demand, we're investing in new stores up and down the country and won’t stop until we’ve made quality, affordable food accessible to everyone.”

Aldi has been recognised by Which? as the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket for the past 12 consecutive months, with the latest figures showing Aldi was a massive £18.21 cheaper on a basket of shopping than the most expensive supermarket, Waitrose.

List of store locations opening in the coming weeks include:

Hedge End Retail Park, Southampton

Eastrea Road, Whittlesey

Station Road, Castle Donington

William Frost Way, Norwich

Eastern Promenade, Porthcawl

It must be Aldi for Christmas

If you are worried about what to buy for your Christmas and New Year food this year, do not worry! Just shop at Aldi, instead!

Aldi has an undeserved reputation and I want to show you why this is wrong. I was shopping in Aldi not so long ago and met a retired Lieutenant Colonel I know who had a trolley brimmed with Chirstmas shopping.

He was clearly very happy to be shopping in Aldi and he explained why: "I was a base commander in Germany for a number of years and Aldi is one of the best supermarket chains over there. And when you are stationed over in Germany for any length of time, you get a taste for certain German foods. Especially at Christmas time, because the Germans certainly know how to celebrate Christmas with mulled wine, Stollen, cheeses and so forth. And I know I can get all of these items -genuine, good quality German stuff, too! all at a fraction of the price I would pay in a delicatessen or a high end supermarket!"

And there are genuine British goodies that are available, too! The mince pies -especially when warmed in the oven!- are absolutely delicious (better than those at premium prices elsewhere!) the Stollen pieces are to die for, the four bird roast is a real treat and please do not forget  the goose fat roast potatoes!

There's a stunning range of beers and wines and the selection of Champagnes and sparkling wines is excellent and all at prices that might make you think you have joined Dr Who for a quick trip back to the 1980s!
